The Excel Club Mid-Atlantic,

is comprised of Excel 5th wheel camper owners from Maine to Florida and east of the Mississippi River. As more clubs are established in this area, we will redefine our boundaries. Our Club meets twice yearly in the spring and in the fall. The Excel campers are manufactured by Peterson Industries of Smith Center Kansas.

This website is intended to supply our members with club information, entertainment and a place to exchange ideas throughout the year. We hope you enjoy it!

Welcome to our web site!

To our travelers, please write a bit about your travels and I'll put them on our blog page. I will be just cutting and pasting so send it as you want it to appear on the web site. Please include a few pictures to enhance your stories. This can be fun if you guys will send your contributions.

From the Ralph and Cheryl Schey
Hello from Texas - again.  Since our last post from Texas we traveled to the Excel Factory Service Center in Kansas, spent the Thanksgiving Holiday in Florida with our FL friends, and the Christmas/New Years Holidays in Cincinnati with Cheryl's family.  We are back in Texas' Rio Grande Valley for the winter.  There are four other Excel couples in our park that shared our Balloon Fiesta Excel adventure, and we have visited fellow Excel Mid-Atlantic Club members Paul and Cheryl Stolze in their park.
We are enjoying ourselves and hope 2009 is great for all of you.

A Note From Jimmy and Peggy McClanahan
Sorry we had to miss the Williamsburg Rally; I'm sure it was as much fun as all the others have been

We went back to Tennessee during that time and spent a week at the Misty River RV campground in Walland, TN, Great Smoky Mountains,  visiting with our daughter nearby.  When we pulled in (it was dark) the first night to our reserved place, we were AMAZED to see not one, but TWO, Excels already parked there.  Thinking it might be people from our group checking out the campground, we waved and hooked up everything and went to bed.  When we got to talk to these people it turned out one couple was from Mississippi and the other couple were members of the Wisconsin Excel Club. They said they were also amazed when they pulled in and saw there was another unit there.  Our pictures are too dark to see anything; you'll have to take our word for it.  Small world; lots of nice people.

We would be interested in comparing notes with the new members who have a 1997 unit, since ours is also a 1997.

Hope to see you all in the spring.

On the road with the Scheys!
Hello from Texas!  We left Albuquerque after the Balloon Fiesta and are now in Amarillo Texas - in the rain, after an overnight stop in Santa Rosa, NM.
We enjoyed some time in Las Vegas and we had a great time in Albuquerque along with fellow Mid-Atlantic Excel Club members Lloyd and Carol Jenkins and Bill and Gail Reitler.  We really enjoyed the Balloon Fiesta and the meals/activities that were included with our Excel Member group. At times the Balloons "flew" just above our rigs!  Just a 1/4 mile or so from where we were parked was a General Mills cereal plant, and every so often the smell of freshly baking brownies wafted over us. We were told that they were baking Cocoa-Cocoa Puffs and they sure smelled delicious.
Hope to see more Mid-Atlanta Excelers in our travels in the future.

From Dick and Barb Smith, Travels

We left Massachusetts Sept. 8, stopping one night in Verona, NY and another in Woodstock, Ontario. We then spent four nights at the Yogi Bear campground in Frankenmuth, MI. We were here to meet some friends, shop at Bronner's Christmas store (worth a trip), and view lighthouses around the "thumb". Next was a ferry trip across Lake Michigan from Ludington to Manitowoc,WI. Friends met us to make the crossing and also to stay on board the night before in one of the small cabins. We thought the experience would be interesting and also save driving around the congested area south of Chicago. Did some sightseeing in Wisconsin as we headed to Iowa. Had to be in Iowa as it was the 49th  state we needed. Found a wonderful Corps of Engineer park north of Iowa City, called Sugar Bottom. Had some full hookup sites - some reservable and some first come. Saw the Amana Colonies and also the Herbert Hoover library and museum. Hated to leave, but headed for South Dakota on state roads. We try to stay off the interstates whenever we can. Spent one night at a KOA in North Sioux City right next to I 29. Headed to Mitchell,SD on back roads and spent three nights at Lake Mitchell Campground, run by the city. Quite nice, especially at this time of year. Went to see DeSmet, Little Town on the Prairie. Then to Hill City in the Black Hills. Stayed at Rafter J. Very nice! Large sites, five camping areas spread out in the woods and meadows. Lots to see in the general area, so we did that for two days. But we needed to go to North Dakota to get the 50th state, so left the trailer at the campground, and went to Medora and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Came back through Montana and Wyoming and went to Devil's Tower. On Monday, Custer State Park was having their annual buffalo round-up so didn't want to miss that. We especially enjoyed seeing the pronghorns in many areas. Had to leave Rafter J as it was closing Oct.first. Found a nice city park, Robidoux RV Park in Gering,Nebraska just south of Scottsbluff. Now have made it as far as North Platte before continuing on to Smith Center for some repair work.

A Message from The Shey's to the club!
Just thought we'd drop a note to say hi to everyone on the east coast.  We're sorry that we couldn't make it to the rally but it just wasn't practical to go from Alaska to Virginia to New Mexico (balloon fiesta).
We sure hope the rain and wind on the east coast stops long enough for you all to have a great time in Williamsburg.  There is so much in that area to see and do, and then there is the Excel Club Mid-Atlantic camaraderie, and f o o d!
Although we've had more than our share of trailer problems (I won't get specific in this email) we had a wonderful time this summer to/from/in Alaska.  We even caught up with fellow club members, the Claphams, a time or two, while in Washington & Oregon.
Gotta go, the road beckons
Take care, safe travels
